If you’re not ready to try a bunch of fear foods, wear fancy clothes, or severely deviate from a food schedule, honor that. Some people may not respect your recovery enough to try avoiding triggering language. You can’t actually gain weight by eating one specific type of food, or after one meal. You might see yourself differently in the mirror, but that’s not the reality of the situation. Communicate with your support system to offload responsibilities that may stress you out.
It can be reframing holidays in early recovery to think about and be faced with the various holiday foods that are not typical of our everyday eating. Work with your treatment team, especially nutritionist to be able to work on an adapted meal plan for your holiday events. Plan Ahead
Mustering the courage to ask for help can sometimes be hard to do, but letting family and friends know how they can help will provide the support necessary when your client needs it most during the holidays. If for some reason you’ll be around people who are drinking on this holiday, the best thing you can do is bring an accountability partner. Whether it’s someone in recovery or a friend or family member who supports your recovery, it’s a good idea to have someone there with you.
